Syllabus
Four modules, twelve lessons. Every lesson states what it covers and the evidence you produce for it.
1AI concepts3 lessons · 4.5 h
- F01.01
AI capabilities and limits
90 minDistinguish rules, machine learning and generative AI; classify six education and business tasks.
Evidence: A justified task map with at least five correct classifications.
- F01.02
Notebook and file skills
90 minRun cells in order, locate files and restart the environment; inspect a supplied dataset.
Evidence: A notebook that runs from a clean kernel without manual fixes.
- F01.03
Variables and data types
90 minUse strings, numbers, booleans and conversions to represent course enquiries.
Evidence: Five type and conversion tests pass, including a missing value.
2Python essentials3 lessons · 4.5 h
- F01.04
Conditions and loops
90 minRoute enquiries with explicit conditions and process a list without duplicate outputs.
Evidence: Correct output for normal, empty and repeated input cases.
- F01.05
Functions and exceptions
90 minWrite reusable validation functions and catch expected input errors.
Evidence: Three functions with clear inputs, return values and negative tests.
- F01.06
Collections and JSON
90 minTransform lists and dictionaries; load and save a nested learner record.
Evidence: A round trip preserves required keys and handles an optional field.
3Working with data3 lessons · 4.5 h
- F01.07
NumPy and arrays
90 minCompare array operations with loops; calculate summary measures.
Evidence: Correct mean, range and array shape checks on a fixed fixture.
- F01.08
Pandas preparation
90 minLoad CSV data, inspect missingness and remove duplicate records responsibly.
Evidence: A cleaned file plus counts explaining every removed or altered row.
- F01.09
Charts and interpretation
90 minCreate category and trend charts; describe what the data cannot establish.
Evidence: Two labelled charts and a limitation grounded in sample size or quality.
4Reliable programs3 lessons · 4.5 h
- F01.10
APIs and responses
90 minCall a mock course API; validate status codes, JSON and pagination.
Evidence: Tests cover success, empty results and a simulated server error.
- F01.11
Testing and version control
90 minWrite small automated tests and commit a reproducible project structure.
Evidence: A repository containing tests, requirements and meaningful change history.
- F01.12
Responsible AI project planning
90 minIdentify privacy risks, human checks and a baseline for the final project.
Evidence: A project brief with synthetic data, acceptance criteria and review points.
Capstone
Build a reproducible student enquiry analyser using synthetic records. Submit a notebook, validated CSV output, tests and a short explanation of where AI would and would not help.
Lab environment
CPU notebook
Lab infrastructure is not yet provisioned, so this describes the environment the course is designed for rather than one you can launch today.
